I would be inclined to download the PDF user manual for your lens and search it to see if there's a setting that's the same or similar to that of the DSLR models, and if there is, enable it. I've also used M42 lenses on the A700 and A850, but the camera menu for the two models has a setting called "Release W/O Lens" (release without lens) which needs to be ENABLED as otherwise the camera thinks there's no lens attached and you can't press the shutter to take the shot. I don't use the SLT format as I'm old school with DSLR. I could instead order a 16mm macro extension tube. I ordered the m42 mount and have the adapter ring. My m39 mount is adjustable but not by that amount. Hence with Helios-44 (ZTM) adapted with M42-M39 ring and M42-NEX adapter you can focus no longer than 5-6 meters. Register distance for M39 is 45.2mm and 45.5mm (45.46mm to be precise) for M42. Where the M42 and ZTM- Russian M39 mount require a 45.46 mm focal flange distance ![]() It appears the M39 mount has a focal flange distance of 28.8 mm it work smoothly on Manual Focus and Focus peaking make it easy.Īnd that confirms my research. It work only on focus M, not work in A S or C, if i use it other than M the shutter would lock and it wont work. while switching on the camera it makes sound for few second and than start to work, even make same sound while shut off the camera. It's from 35mm Russian site, they provided me lens with an A mount adapter which is very thin screw fit on my mount. Still, your lens will focus up to 5-6 meters. To fit a6000, you will need M42-M39 ring, and M42-NEX adapter. Your Helios-44 was supplied as kit lens for first series of Zenit SLR cameras. Zenit Thread Mount is SLR mount from first Zenit cameras. For a6000, you will need adapter like from your link. Leica Thread Mount is rangefinder lens mount. There are (at least) two lens mounts with M39 thread: Make sure the adaptor does not have some sort of adjustment, my m42 adaptor has a set screw that when loose allows you to adjust the thickness of the mount to use out of spec lenses. The m39 mount should be 28.8 mm and E mount is 18 mm so the m39 mount should be 10.8 mm thick. i decided to extend the focal distance by holding the lens in front of the camera and move it in and out (sort of like macro tubes but hand held) and was able to find focus!!! if i hold the lens about 5 mm from the lens adapter the lens focuses well enough that i can use the focus peaking to get a decent shot. i took the lens off and looked through it and was able to focus without the camera so the lens can resolve. i tried near and far objects and the full range of focus. i try to focus without the assist and nothing comes into focus. i give the shutter release a half push to get the focus zoom and nothing happens. I put the lens on the mount and attach it to the camera and everything fits perfectly. the Fotasy lens adapter states it is an M39 to Nex-E mount adapter and the Helios lens is an older M39 mount. I was feeling nostalgic so i added a Helios-44 58 f2 from ebay and a Fotasy 元9-NEX lens adapter from amazon. Why didn't the focus zoom work with manual focus lens? can anyone advise what is the proper thickness for an M39 to sony e-mount lens adapter? my guess is that it is about 5 to 10 mm too short. ![]() Now i am wondering if the adapter is the problem. i decided to extend the focal distance by holding the lens in front of the camera and move it in and out (sort of like macro tubes but hand held) and was able to find focus!!! if i hold the lens about 5 mm from the lens adapter the lens focuses well enough that i can use the focus peaking to get a decent shot. ![]() I was feeling nostalgic so i added a Helios-44 58 f2 from ebay and a Fotasy 元9-NEX lens adapter from amazon. in fact i sometimes find the focus zoom on manual more effective than the AF. i am comfortable using the camera either AF or manual. I bought a sony a6000 with the sigma 30 f2.8.
